THE GOD OF PEACE

Peace in the Battle
“And the God of peace will be with you.” Phil 4: 9

Peace and quiet. Wouldn’t that be nice for once? When we look around us we often see nothing but a world full of conflict, stress, anxiety, and fear. It seems like a never ending battle to maintain any sort of calm. But when our eyes turn to Him above, everything begins to change. Conflict is put into perspective, stress eases, anxiety is relieved and fears fade. Even if the battle outwardly continues we are overcome with peace, God’s peace. All because He is the God of Peace. (Romans 15:33, 16:20; Philippians 4:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 13:20).

The Lord is at peace within Himself. Nothing is conflicting within Him. There is complete peace within the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - the Trinity. All in perfect harmony and the utmost of love. His peace is made secure because He is all powerful and sovereign. Nothing to disrupt that peace. His enemies do not cause Him to fear or lack peace. His will will be done. His peace is made great for us because He cares for us.

His creation from the beginning was nothing but a peaceful, tranquil world with no strife. No pain, no suffering, no evil and no death. All was just like Him - at peace. He did not bring war and conflict into this world. It is us who battles against Him. He battles in return to renew peace.

Some say that peace must be fought for and won. In our case, as believers, our battle for peace has been waged. The Lord has fought for us. He has taken on our greatest foes - the foes of sin and death - and He has won. He will permanently defeat the Evil One (Romans 16:33).  Now we stand beside Him completely victorious with peaceful assurance that all is well and all will be well. Though the skirmishes and small battles rage throughout our days we can stand in the middle of it all with absolute peace – confidence it what He has done and what He is doing. Although humanity and evil went to war with Him, He has moved to bring about peace, because He is the peacemaker.

" ... and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross.” Colossians 1:20.

He is the God of peace so He then is the restorer of peace. The Son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, came and purchased for us peace with God, despite the fact that we were His enemies. He is the final peacemaker. Peace is the end goal of God for us as His children -

"come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Mt. 11:28.

The peace of God is one that surpasses all understanding. It is knowing that He is in complete control and that He cares for us. And He would not fail His promises. This is the same peace that enabled Moses to deal with a grumbling people; David to stand against powerful enemies; Stephen to preach unashamedly to a crowd that would kill him; and Jesus to endure the mocking, the scourging, and the suffering of the cross. He has made His peace available to all of us.

When there was war in Heaven God caste Satan out. And He will soon caste Satan away from the earth, once and for all. Peace is the end goal of God. To have completeness and wholeness. To have total well-being. The state of perfect harmony. Peace is what God extends to His people. Be calm and assured that everything is going to be very good - just like He intended at the beginning of creation.
