OUR INFINITE GOD - OUTSIDE THE BOX
“OUTSIDE THE BOX”
Infinite God
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit. Psalm 147:5 (NIV)
“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? 8They are higher than the heavens—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave—what can you know? 9Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea. … 14And these are but the outer fringe of His works; how faint the whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His power?” Job 11:7-9, 14 (NIV)
When attempting to understand that God is infinite we need to get beyond the common ideas of time and space. The fact that He is infinite means that He is unrestricted. The Lord is without limits or in other words, not subject to limitations. He is immeasurable, that is, He can’t be counted or measured. He is boundless or without boundaries. He is incapable of increase. Unsearchable. Incomprehensible. Fills all. Absolute perfection. Wholly complete. Therefore He is not a creature of time and space. We cannot apply the limitations of finite creation upon Him – for He is the infinite Creator.
We must remember that matter is finite. God is not. He alone is infinite. He is above all. He is incomparable. I cannot find anything even close that compares with Him. He is indescribable and beyond expression.
Infinite in what way? Infinite in magnitude. Infinite in all His perfections. He is Bigger, He is better, He is best. He just doesn’t stop. He is higher, better, farther. Race through in your mind all the other attributes. Infinite in goodness. That means He is “gooder” than anything. He is the “goodest”. He is the holiest. He is best. He is immeasurable in all His qualities. That makes the Lord unlimited. There is no end to his ability to do or be anything.
He is vast and unbound. He has no borders, no limits, no boundaries – except one. He is only bound by who He is and how He has revealed Himself to be in His Word. Because He is infinitely loving, He cannot be anything but loving. Because He is infinitely holy, He cannot be anything but holy. Because He is infinitely just, He cannot be anything but just.
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us," Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)
Only an infinite God can pull that off because I have a pretty good imagination. I can ask for some big things. But He is beyond all that. He is just plain beyond.
Put them together with eternity and you have attributes that are infinite in depth and will last for all of time. His infinite love will last forever. His infinite holiness will last forever. His infinite mercy will last forever. If either of those ceased to be then I would be a mess. Then He would fail me at some point in eternity. But the reality is that He will not.
God beats anything, anytime, anyhow. He will continually satisfy better than anyone or anything. He can take me higher. He can move me deeper. He can pull me closer. He can give me more. He is best.
Because He is infinite, He who is highest was able to sink lowest in order to lift us up. What happened at His becoming a man is that the cleanest became the dirtiest, the purest became the most defiled, the most sought-after became the most rejected and the most glorious became the most despised. Jesus infinitely fills all our extremes.
"God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)
It was His infinite love that covered our infinite sin once and for all. That is why Christ only needed to die once. He forgave us completely – infinitely.
It is simple to lose the awe of a person or thing when we are around them or it continually. It will never happen with the Lord. The angels have been at it for a long time and they still fall at His feet in worship. There is always more of God than we know and perceive and will ever perceive. You and I will spend eternity learning more every day of the infinite ways of God.
How does the fact that God is infinite affect my day?
- There is more of Him available to me today. He can more than fill my life. He can more than satisfy. He can do more. He brings His infinite love, power, attention, presence, wisdom, knowledge, compassion, grace, and mercy to my situation. "An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others." A. W. Tozer
- When it comes to God there will always be an abundance. If I am not being filled by Him and satisfied by Him then I am being ripped off, someone is lying to me and I am being deceived.
- There is no limit to my growth in Him. No limit to my praise and experience of Him. Of course I will spend eternity praising Him because I will always learn and experience more and more of Him. He just gets greater – or should we say we just begin to perceive how great He really is.
- As His children we have the Infinite One always by our side. It’s simple math. Me alone can’t do anything or be anything. Zero plus infinity equals infinity. One plus infinity still makes infinity. Adding God to my situation, my dilemma makes the dilemma as nothing. For no thing nor no one can prevail against Him and I. Because He will stand, I will stand. Because He will prevail, I will prevail. I will endure because He is. The incapable is filled with the infinitely capable.
Do The Math:
God = ∞
My situation = BIG PROBLEM
God > My situation
Therefore: My situation + God = No Problem!

WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID:
“Sinning against an infinite God is an infinite offense requiring on infinite payment. A finite person cannot make up for the infinite offense. Only Christ can ultimately pay the price.”
“God has infinite, or unlimited, resources to help us.”
"In our physical world, we can measure everything. We can measure the size and weight of the Earth and we can measure the energy in an electron. Everything in our world has a definite dimension. However, God cannot be measured, sized, or gauged."
"When you think no one can touch the broken part of your life, your infinite God with His infinite love can melt away every hurt. Your infinite God can destroy physical obstacles and vaporize barriers no one else can touch. When His infinite love touches the finite parts of your life and all its pain, suffering, and difficulties then something is going to give and the give is always by the pain, suffering, and difficulties. Your infinite God created the finite and because He created the finite He can fix it, change it, shape it, form it, or do away with it … whatever is His pleasure to do, He can do it."
