The Scriptures and Abortion

Image
I have heard a few people say that the Bible doesn't say anything about abortion. In response, here are a few passages that speak directly to the personhood of a fetus and the practice of abortion. Psalm 139:13–16  Certainly you made my mind and heart; you wove me together in my mother’s womb. I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly; my bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was inside the womb. All the days ordained for me were recorded in your scroll before one of them came into existence. Luke 1:41–44  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She exclaimed with a loud voice, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb! And who am I that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me? For the instant the sound of your greeting reached my

IS GOD REALLY NECESSARY? - THE ASEITY OF GOD

Necessarily God “He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.” Acts 17:25 “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.” Rom. 11:36 “In the beginning God …”   That kind of sums it all up.   The first statement in all of scripture does not reason for the existence of God.   It does not explain who He is or what He has done.  It doesn't need to because that statement is the source of all epistemology, the beginning of all reason and logic.  It simply states that which is – God is.  All that is is because He is.  He is alive, real, true, and living.   There is ancient, mind boggling philosophical concept called the Aseity of God.   The term Aseity comes from Latin aseite , meaning, "of oneself".   It gives the idea of self-existence and self-sufficiency.   In terms of God, it means that He is The Necessary Being. Everything that is, revolves around Him.

The God Worth Seeking  Happy New Year! Of course, many of you have made New Year's resolutions. Others have gotten so tired of making them and breaking them that they stopped altogether. Some have resolved to not resolve anything. A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. I heard one guy say, "I was going to quit all my bad habits for the new year, but then I remembered that nobody likes a quitter."  Well, a new year, 2017. Time changes, but will we? That is up to us. Remain the same or change? This year let's make a resolution together, the best resolution we can make - to seek to know God better. To know Him more. Let's start off together getting a quick overview of all that He is. They are many views of who God is, but we will look at how He has truly revealed Himself in His Word. So, hold on, this will be the quickest theology course you've ever been in. But we don't study God as much as we get to know
